The Elder Scrolls Online

Thats right, you are not misreading that hyper link. I can only assume this is legit, because I’m looking at my calender and its not April 1st, and this is Game Informer’s website.

Slated for release in 2013, I imagine ESO will rock the gaming world much like every Elder Scrolls title since Morrowind has done.

The article states that there will be 3 player factions (hopefully that does not preclude the existence of player-made guilds) vying for control of Tamriel and White Gold Tower. The over-arcing plot involves Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince of Domination and the King of Rape. He is purported to have created the first vampire by raping a Nedic virgin. That is one badass dude, and a nice change from the constant presence of Mehrunes Dagon.

With this, Survarium, and the Pathfinder MMO, I’ll be going to work just to feed my soon to be MMO addiction.

For those who know the meaning of the post’s title, +25 Internets.

Thanks to Felicia Day for sharing on Facebook.

April 30, 2012

Although it seems many on the internet have already heard, I have recently learned that GSC Games has closed its doors and shutdown the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Project.

The developers, however, did not wish to see their life’s work gone to waste and have established Vostok Studios and are making a new game modeled after S.T.A.L.K.E.R., called Survarium.

I don’t know why they are not using the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. name, but I suspect it is a legal issue. They intend to share much with the community, and have established a YouTube channel where they are showing development diaries. I’ve embedded the first below. The video is in Russian with English subtitles (poorly translated, but quite intelligible).

For those who do not wish to watch the video, here is a basic summary.

When the company went under many of the developers decided to try and save the game. They had to abandon the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. name if they wanted investors. They decided to go for some kind of free 2 play model mmo  shooter. The concept would be something like “the Zone has consumed the world,” but obviously not literally, due to above mentioned legal issues. The devs felt that leaving the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. name behind would free them from the existing canon and allow them to explore more ideas.

Personally, I’m pretty bummed. Although S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in this form is probably better than no S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at all, I’d still prefer my good old single player experience. I actually had an idea like this once, and interested to see what they do with it. They really want player feedback, so if you have some constructive ideas you’d like to share, please go to their website here.

Felicia Day Does It Again & Xanthestar Customs

March 20, 2012

The effervescent Felicia Day has once again put together an amazing project for our viewing pleasure.

Felicia had, along with several friends and internet personalities (Will Wheaton!), created a new YouTube Channel called Geek & Sundry. Click on that link and you will start a short-ish series of clips where Felicia talks about the various shows and then a trailer plays. I’m personally looking forward to The Flog and Tabletop.

The Guild, Felicia’s awesome show about a group of socially inept MMORPG gamers trying to interact with the real world, is starting its 5th season in the first week of April and will now be on Geek & Sundry.

Secondly, I’d like to point you all to Xanthestar Customs, the owner does custom roleplaying minis and My Little Pony figurines. Xanthestar is quite talented and you would do well to consider them as an option if you would like a custom mini or pony. They have an Etsy Store, and a Facebook Page as well.

Here is an example of the custom designed Pathfinder Goblin knit Xanthestar designed,

Knitted Goblin

Creepy and Adorable, just like the art released by Paizo.

and here is a Gnome Sorcerer they did…

Fizzle the Gnome Sorcerer

Most of this is custom molded, even the magical energy arcing over his head. Impressive!

So I hope you check them out, even if just to look at some of the cool stuff they did 🙂

Inspiration from an Alien Robot

March 1, 2012

NASA has enlisted Optimus Prime (or the man who voices him) to give a rousing speech to inspire people to support space exploration. I myself have been disappointed by our progress in this area over the last, oh, 30 years. I don’t believe we should be investing in it at this precise time, due to economic troubles, but should sanity be brought into the government and spending reigned in, I believe we should make colonizing Mars the world’s top priority.

Check out the video below.

Modern Skyrim Hijinx

February 25, 2012

I have the first three episodes of a Skyrim mini-series, Skyrim 2012.

This series is a bit of comedy from GroBroPros. They have more episodes coming, but you can watch these three now!

What happens to Skyrim in 2000 years? Many things will change, but many things will stay the same…

RPG Maker VX Ace Release

February 23, 2012

RPG Maker VX Ace Release | The Official RPG Maker Blog.

It seems another PC RPG Maker is on the horizon! I’ve not heard anything on this until now, but it seems that there are some other posts about its features.

$90 is pretty steep for any kind of hobby software, especially when the price for the Maker software is traditionally $60. However, it mentions a pre-order discount and some bonuses to those who pre-order. I doubt the discount will be as much as $30, and I imagine the bonuses will be something like extra tile-sets, scripts, and other content. Or maybe some extra tool included in the software.

The bonuses and nature of the discount will be revealed when the pre-order becomes available on March 1st.

Gotta say, despite money being tight, I am kinda tempted by this. If the scripting system is at least as powerful and flexible as earlier entries, and I imagine it would be (if not better), you could do some amazing things. I would love to use this system to make the tactical RPG I’ve been dreaming up the last few years.

Discussion on the release can be found at The Pavilion.
